Building My Website via WhatsApp
I just rebuilt my entire personal website by chatting with an AI agent on WhatsApp. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes. Let me explain how this works, because it's kind of wild.
The Setup
I'm using OpenClaw, an AI agent framework that runs on my Mac. It's connected to my WhatsApp, has access to my GitHub, and can write code. Basically, I can message it like a developer friend who's always available and actually does the work.
Tonight I messaged: "I want a simpler website that I can update by chatting with you."
What Happened Next
The agent: 1. Cloned my repo 2. Analyzed the current site (FastHTML with OAuth, database, email forms, etc.) 3. Proposed three options for simplification 4. Built an entirely new version when I picked one 5. Created a clean content structure 6. Wrote the code (<150 lines vs the complex original) 7. Committed everything to a new branch
All while I was just... chatting. On my phone.
The New Architecture
Instead of a complex full-stack app, it's now:

projects.md
posts/
*.md
simple_main.py # The entire site
That's it. All content in markdown. No database. No auth. Just files.
The Workflow Now
Want to add a blog post? I message:
"Add a blog post about X"
The agent:
- Creates content/posts/x.md
- Writes the content (or I can draft it)
- Commits to git
- Pushes to GitHub
- Railway auto-deploys
Same for updating my bio, adding projects, whatever. Just chat → live site.
Why This Matters
I've started and abandoned so many personal sites over the years. The friction was always: - Set up dev environment - Remember how the tech works - Make changes - Test locally - Deploy - Repeat
Now it's: - Message the agent - Done
The site you're reading this on was literally updated via WhatsApp from my phone while I was sitting on the couch.
The Meta Moment
This post itself was created the same way. I messaged:
"Do a post about this chat instead of rust. Call it 'making my website via WhatsApp' or something"
And here we are.
What's Next?
I'm still figuring out what this means for how I work. If I can build and maintain websites by chatting, what else becomes that easy?
